« Born in the caul (video) »

Born behind a veil, birthed inside the membranes. Told it brings the Caulbearer good luck and many stories have been shared around the world about this more rare way to be born. I think it is so mystical to see, and thought I would share this video with you.

Have any of your children been born in the caul?

Wow! That is amazing. Neither of my children were born in the caul. With my first my water broke before I was in active labour, and with my second my water broke at the beginning of the pushing stage. But I have a good friend whose daughter was born in the caul, and they even got a photo.

Did the midwife break the bag or did it break on its own after the head presented?

@Kathy I don't know the midwife or family, just found the video online and HAD to share. It is hard to tell, but I'd imagine that the bag would break as the body was coming out, or as the midwife touched.

My son was born in the caul, and it broke just after he slid out. It floated around in the pool for a while, and I swear that for the first few seconds, I could feel everything it touched. That was not a pleasant sensation - it was super sensitive, like the skin at the tip of your finger just after you cut the nails a bit too short. I was sitting in the pool, holding my baby, saying "ack! what is that?" as the caul bumped the side of the pool behind me and I FELT it. Very strange, to feel things you can't possibly be touching with your own body.

I gave birth to my son six weeks ago and he was born in the caul at the hospital. The birth was so quick (born within 10 minutes of arriving at the hospital). Completely unexpected. My first child was born after an induction, rupture of membranes, and epidural. This baby came out in the caul with just over an hour of labour. The doctor was so excited to see a baby born in the caul.
